From 1987 the poem 'Evening and Morning'

EVENING AND MORNING

The trees stand still and wait the rising moon
And all the evening creatures gather round.
As stars begin to twinkle in the sky
The katydids and crickets start their sound.

The dark begins to lighten in the east.
Across the lake a mist is on the run.
The silver moon peers down the mountain top.
A glorious summer evening has begun.

The air is filled with chatter all night long,
From early whippoorwill to late owl’s hoot.
At water’s edge the frogs keep up their song
‘Til sudden squawk of heron turns them mute.

The trees stand still and wait the rising sun,
Majestic silhouettes against the sky.
The faintest blush of pink steals ‘round the edge,
And birds begin to signal with their cry.

The night is gone, another day appearing,
And out of darkness light again is born.
A sleepy cock is crowing in the field,
Announcing to the world a fresh new morn.
